Happiest of JFlan's Birthdays to you and yours! What better way to observe the forty-second anniversary of this auspicious day than with a celebratory picspam? Here: have some JFlan! (and John Sheppard, Lionel Thayer, Julian Lodge, etc.)

Warning: image-heavy. Really ridiculously image-heavy.

So, JFlan is pretty hot, no?

Like, seriously hot.

And sometimes, sweetly dorkfaced!

From some angles his nose looks quite pointy. (His ears look pointy from every angle.)

Not even 40 pounds of spacesuit will keep JFlan from being informed about the Arts!

Okay, yes, at first this just appears to be a pic about how hot David Hewlett looks
with a big ol' gun between his legs, but look at JFlan! With his foot tucked up
under his leg, and his hand clasped just so on his thigh. Delightful!

Now from above, where you can see that yes, his fingers are delicate and lovely.

Oh, he's a sly one, he is.

That innocent look can't be trusted.

You just know he's up to something devious, here.

Shiny eyes in season 3! Back when they were more rare!

Earliest example of shiny eyes?

JFlan: consciously deciding to subvert the "uber-manly Major Sheppard and
his decorative women" theme of the photo shoot by posing like a rentboy, or just awkward?

JFlan: consciously deciding to subvert TPTB's annoyingly heteronormative assumption that John is straight,
or just kinda failing at portraying "happy that my friend's proposing to his girlfriend"? (Also: shiny eyes!)

JFlan decides that he's been making subtle acting choices long enough.

Oh, Lionel. But look at how the pointed toe helps define his calf muscle!

Which is better: the hand on his boyfriend's chest, or the suede shoes?

I guess that's his "look, I'm playing sports!" toe point.

Hee, belly!

See, even while skiing: toe point!

You just know there's some surfing toe-pointing going on there.

Yeah, this one's in here mostly for the curtains. Sparkly!

If I recall correctly, he's looking at an owl that's been disrupting shooting all morning with its loud hooting.
Or, John's watching with amusement as Rodney climbs a tree to save a ferret-kitten thing during the
annual Music Fest on P14-688.

Does he have a bad side? (And hee, flap pockets!)

Nnnrgh.

Are those air quotes I spy?

A (too rare) full-length shot.

Another mostly full-length shot, also demonstrating how skinny he is. (And hot.)

Ooooh, long legs in jeans.

Long Joe is long.

Seriously: how are his hips that narrow?

There go those damn hips again. (And note the jacket with the polka-dot lining and pocket square.)

But just because he's skinny doesn't mean he doesn't have an ass, as this pose demonstrates.

This pose kinda works for that, too.

Perhaps the extreme slinkiness is why he's always bundled up on set?

He's not actually aiming at anything here, is he?

Again, with the not looking where he's shooting.

Here at least there's nothing to aim. (From the unaired "Stargate Atlantis: MIME TIME!" episode.)

JFlan + children = WIN

See, with children! Aw! Jinto and Wex, we barely knew ye. Here's hoping Michael didn't kill you.

Such a multitasker, he is! Kind of a twelve-year-old, but a multitasker!

It bleeds over into his characters, too. For instance: here he's playing John as both kinda psycho AND a pretty, pretty princess.

Or here, where John flirts and beats Rodney at chess simultaneously.

But he's sure to keep that pinky raised! It's only proper.

Someone stole his sunglasses from the prop department.

But sometimes, JFlan wears his own clothes to work.

See! It's totally his shirt, no matter what Mallozzi says.

Comfy!

Aw, roommates!

Hey, remember that time JFlan participated in John Russo's project, and we all agreed he was way hotter
than the actually-pretty-boys that had also been photographed? Good times.

Wise Beard Man: His words are wise. His face is beard.

JFlan makes both judicial clerkships and bowties just a little bit hotter.

Things Puppies Can Get Away with that Fangirls (and Boys) Can't #23: Trying to lick JFlan.

I wonder just how drunk they all are in this picture.

Okay, so this is JFlan's body double, right? For a while, I thought it was just JFlan making a grumpy old man face, but -- the ears aren't nearly pointy enough, and the hair's not as exuberant as it should be, right? Like, the bangs don't stick out far enough, and the cowlicks should be more sproing-y? Or is he just pulling a really elastic face?

JFlan knows you're watching him.

It is never not time for some sweet riffs.

JFlan and some guy invite you to try this nice merlot. (And it's that polka-dot pocket square again.)

Return of the pocket square!

Shirt tucked in and (almost) all buttoned up, plus the pocket square.

Wow, that's an unfortunate bandana.

JFlan asks, "Have you ever met a lumberjack who could see into your SOUL?!"

Oh, he's so bashful sometimes!

But what he really wants to do is direct.

And this is the one where we all remark on what an impressive . . . tan he has.

All images collected rather indiscriminately from all over the place. If you'd like me to credit you or remove an image, please let me know, and I will do so promptly!
And I know I'm not the first one to notice that damn ubiquitous pocket square/JFlan's inability to buy a new blazer, so lemme know if I should credit someone with that original observation.

I'm sure I'm not the only one doing this today, so if you see other birthday celebration posts, please share links!

My pleasure! I don't know how much of any of that you've seen, but I actually kind of loved Sherman's March, and Man Made is amazing in how bad it is (though Joe is one shining point of decent acting). His run on Sisters was great fun, but broke my heart at the end, and of course Thoughtcrimes is nifty psychic fun. And then there are all of the David Hewlett projects. :-) Enjoy!

Yeah, I've seen nothing! Well, except for Cube years ago because... it's Cube (I think I should rewatch it now that I know about Hewlett).

I'm really new to SGA (about a month and a half, but I've read more fic for it than I have for any other fandom, for serious. Well, maybe not HP, back in the day.), so everything is so new! So much to discover! I'll definitely check out the ones you mention first.

Oh, well then, welcome! There's so, so much fic, and so much of it is really good! [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine makes really excellent rec lists (http://thefourthvine.livejournal.com/tag/stargate:+atlantis) and a lot of the fic comms ([livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic, [livejournal.com profile] artword, and [livejournal.com profile] sga_episodefic all spring to mind) are great fun to browse through. (Plus, they're all really well tagged, so it's easy to sort for things you're interested in.) Good luck!

(And, oh, HP fandom, that was pretty all-consuming, wasn't it? I was (okay, am) a die-hard R/Hr-er, but I'm glad that we don't have those kinds of shipping wars in SGA. Sure, people may not agree on all preferences (though, how can you deny the John/Rodney? :D) but I've never seen it get that bad!)

I haven't been in the HP fandom for eons but once you said die-hard R/Hr-er I may or may not have seen red. XD H/Hr was my OTP back then, you see. I really don't care anymore now, though, it's been so long. But it was official once I read the epilogue.

I rarely have OTPs anymore but John/Rodney is definitely coming daaaaamn close to being one for me.

though, how can you deny the John/Rodney?

It's a mystery to me how some people just aren't watching the same show we are (http://firefox.org/news/articles/1454/1/Your-Friends-Are-Not-Watching-the-Same-Show-You-Are-And-That039s-Okay/Page1.html)!

Oh, hope I didn't bring back any traumatic HP flashbacks! That epilogue was a bit crap from any perspective, wasn't it?

And, hee, by that article, I'm watching "The John and Rodney Show" and "Team = Family Show" in about equal parts (though, only in reruns now, sadly).
