Man, I keep meaning to do an update on all the neat things that have happened in the last few weeks months. And then more neat things happen and take up any free time and/or mental energy I have. Not a bad problem to have, really, but it makes for irregular posting.

But: I venture out of my quasi-lurkerdom to offer an Archive of Our Own invite code to whomever may still need one. Leave me a comment if you do! And trust me: even if you upload a single story and then don't return to it for 8+ months, they don't kick you out of the Archive.

I've been having fun over the past week reading all of the fabulous drabbles being posted at the [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match Drabble Challenge, and I've even managed to sneak in some writing in between rounds of bar study flashcards. If you're in a drabble-y mood, definitely check it out! And you can be a mercenary drabbler for either team -- competition's neck and neck right now, so I'll nudge you gently in the direction of writing for Team Peace, but with 350+ drabbles already, both teams have made an excellent showing!

(Oh, oh, and check out the gorgeous Team Peace icon [livejournal.com profile] monanotlisa made! You can see the gorgeous full-size banner of the image here at her journal.)

Also, because you needed another bingo card post on your flist: checkitoutcheckitout )

It's not too late to donate to the OTW! (Well, I'm guessing the general policy is, "It's never too late to donate to the OTW!", but it's currently not too late to donate for the current membership drive.)

For just $10, you get a vote in the board membership elections, the immensely satisfying feeling that you're helping to support projects like the Archive of Our Own and Fanlore, and a chance to post one of these nifty cat macros:

OTW: buildin ur infrastructure

Thanks for taking a break from the voyeurism to help out, Ceiling Cat! Please use my $25 to buy yourself something pretty -- a new soldering gun, perhaps?

Got a hankerin' for some Ruus wine or lemon (death) bars? Curious to see what Earth-equivalent ingredients tava bean and tuttleroot soup might include? Dying to know how to make a proper Salisbury steak?

Then check out De Re Coquinaria Pegasi, the extensive Pegasus galaxy/Atlantis Expedition cookbook, assembled by [livejournal.com profile] winkingstar and contributions from her minions. The cookbook contains dozens of recipes (including drinks, sides & salads, main dishes, and desserts), as well as photos, captions, and recipe-inspired fic (all gen or Teyla/Kanaan, which there needs to be more of in the world, IMO).

The above link takes you to the noticeboard post, which has links to the wiki-based online version as well as the download links for the PDF. I highly recommend looking through the PDF, which has 40+ pages of photos with captions that aren't on the wiki.

So check it out, try out some recipes, and if you've got your own ideas to contribute, we'd love to see them!

Just a quick reminder: voting for [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match closes TODAY at 10:00pm GMT (just over 3 hours from now). Go vote, vote, vote for your team of choice (that would be the HOME Team, right?), or at least for your favorite stories, and check back tomorrow to see the final results and the author reveals.

Hope you all have been enjoying the Match -- though, with 50 shiny new stories of John/Rodney greatness, I can't imagine how you wouldn't have been!

The Drabble Tree challenge is open over at [community profile] mcshep_match, and everyone's welcome to join in the fun!  There are a bunch of drabbles up already, so there's a great chance you'll find something to inspire you.  (I've been having some maddening fun trying to keep myself at 100 words to express an idea.  100 words!  There's no room for parentheticals in 100 words!)

(. . . And now I've set myself a new challenge.)

Anyway, the teams this year are Home and Away, and you can play for either of them (though I recommend supporting the Home Team because it's made of awesome).  Go forth and drabble!

The lovely and talented [personal profile] winkingstar has gone and podficced my [community profile] mcsmooch story!  She's done an excellent job, and handles my run-on, parenthetical-laden sentences like a pro--you'd never guess this is her first podfic!

Have a listen (and leave her feedback!) over here at [profile] sgapodfic.

I just commented to offer my services as a beta over at [community profile] sgabigbang.  Eeeep!

I'd really love to get more involved with the fandom, and what better way than to help edit a fic of 40K+ words?  Plus, it'd be a nice change from editing law review articles, which are sadly lacking in gay sex (discussions of Lawrence v. Texas notwithstanding).

Posting the comment felt very much like trying to write an ad for myself--I had to make sure not to put in a cheery "Thank you for your consideration!" at the end, as I get the impression that sort of thing is a bit gauche.  (And ending with "Good luck with your stories!" to the writers who might be reading seemed, awkwardly enough, potentially condescending, and that's certainly not what I'm aiming for at all.  Just:  Damn, 40K?  Those are many words to put in order!)

So, Baby Step Into Fandom #3, completed!  Now begins the waiting to see if anyone picks me. </grade school gym class>

Hi there!  If you're reading this, I've probably commented on your journal at some point in the recent past.  I've made a New Year's resolution (more like Ides of January resolution, actually) to delurk and comment on all of the fantastic fannish activity that I so enjoy.  This isn't the first time I've resolved to do this, but I'm hoping it'll be the time that sticks.  (Plus, it's a fantastic way to procrastinate.)

Who knows, maybe I'll go really wild, post some entries, and actually contribute to fandom.  (Not the first time I've thought that, either.)

Anyway, hello, and thank you for whatever fannish exploit you've performed-- I really enjoyed it!
