I'm glad John's reaction worked for you -- I didn't want him to be continually angsting about things throughout the story, since I figure he'd bury a lot of that pretty deeply, but I also thought that the initial bout of waking-up-to-nothingness would hit him pretty hard.
I really enjoyed playing around with all of the different relationships; I love the idea of most of Atlantis operating as a kind of extended family, so it was fun to try out different dynamics in that. And this was the first thing I've written since the finale that features Keller in a substantial way, and I really wanted to do her justice. I'm really pleased to hear you liked the story!
